Community Guidelines
Last updated: September 13, 2026
Niteout is for finding out where the night is, in real time, from the people who are actually there. That only works if what's on the app is real. These guidelines explain what's expected of everyone who uses Niteout and what we do when someone breaks them. They form part of our Terms of Service.
Be who you are
- You must be of legal age to enter venues that serve alcohol where you live. Niteout is not for anyone under that age.
- Use your own account. Don't impersonate another person, a bar, or Niteout, and don't create accounts to get around a removal.
Stories and photos
Stories are live, from the venue, for the people around you. Post what's actually happening where you are. Don't post:
- Nudity, sexual content, or anything that sexualizes another person.
- Harassment, threats, slurs, or content that targets someone for who they are.
- Content that singles out another person without their consent, including photos or video taken to embarrass, expose, or track them.
- Violence, weapons, drug sales, or other illegal activity.
- Content from somewhere other than the venue you're posting to, or old content passed off as live.
- Spam, ads, or anything you don't have the right to share.
Bars are public places and other people will be in your shots. That's fine. Using the app to follow, expose, or intimidate a specific person is not.
Going tonight and check-ins
- Only mark yourself as going somewhere you actually plan to be.
- Don't check in at a venue you aren't at.
- Friends can see where you're going when you let them. Don't use that, or any other part of the app, to track someone who hasn't chosen to share with you.
Venue information
Anyone can suggest a correction to a venue's hours, address, phone, tags, or other details, or report a venue that has closed, moved, or is listed twice. Our team reviews every suggestion before it goes live.
- Suggestions must be truthful and about the venue's details. They are not reviews, complaints, or a place to describe an experience.
- A photo of the sign, door, or posted hours is the fastest way to get a change approved. Only attach photos you took or have the right to use.
- Reporting a venue as closed or as a duplicate when it isn't, or filing suggestions to damage a business, will get your account removed.
Claiming a venue
Owners, managers, and staff can claim a venue to manage its listing, post events, and add photos. We verify every claim, and we may ask the current owner before transferring anything.
- Only claim venues you own, run, or are employed by and authorized to represent.
- Claiming a venue you don't run, or using someone else's phone, email, or documents to pass verification, is grounds for immediate removal and may be reported to the venue.
- Once you manage a venue, keep its hours and details accurate and don't use it to post content that would break these guidelines anywhere else on Niteout.
Events and niteouts
- Only post events at venues you're authorized to post for, and don't advertise events that aren't happening.
- Niteouts are for friends. Don't invite people to harass them, and don't share an invite link somewhere it will reach people who wouldn't be welcome.
What happens when someone breaks these guidelines
Depending on what happened and whether it has happened before, we may remove content, reject or reverse a venue change, remove a venue claim, limit what an account can do, or remove the account. Serious cases, like impersonating a business or threatening someone, are handled with immediate removal.
We look at reports from people in the app and at what our review team sees. We don't always give a warning first.
Reporting and appeals
If you see something that breaks these guidelines, email support@niteout-app.com with what you saw and where. If you think we got a decision about your content, venue change, or account wrong, reply to the notification you received or email the same address and we'll take another look.
Changes
We'll update these guidelines as Niteout grows. When we make a meaningful change, we'll update the date at the top and, for changes that affect what you can do, let you know in the app.
