NiteOut ("NiteOut," "we," "us," or "our") operates the NiteOut mobile application and the website at niteout-app.com (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and/or phone number, along with authentication data managed through our identity provider (Amazon Cognito).
• Profile content. A username, profile photo, and any details you choose to add.
• User content. Stories, photos, posts, RSVPs, check-ins, bar crawls, messages, and other content you create or share in the app.
• Social connections. Friends you add and the interactions you have with them within the Service.
• Communications. Messages you send us for support or business inquiries.

Information collected automatically

• Location. With your permission, approximate or precise device location to show nearby bars, events, and friends. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings.
• Usage and device data. App interactions, device type, operating system, identifiers, and diagnostic information.
• Push tokens. A device token so we can deliver notifications through Apple Push Notification service (APNs).

How we use your information

• Provide, operate, and improve the Service.
• Show you relevant bars, events, live activity, and friends near you.
• Enable social features like RSVPs, stories, crawls, and messaging.
• Send notifications you've asked for and important service messages.
• Maintain safety, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
• Comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

• With other users, as directed by you — for example, content you post, your profile, and activity you share with friends.
• With service providers that help us run the Service, including Amazon Web Services (hosting, storage, database), Amazon Cognito (authentication), Apple (push notifications), and Giphy (GIF search). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual protections.
• For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or NiteOut.
• In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

Your rights and choices

• Access, correct, or update your profile information in the app.
• Control location and notification permissions in your device settings.
• Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to certain processing.

Deleting your account

You can delete your NiteOut account and associated personal data at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account), or by emailing support@niteout-app.com. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and personal content, subject to the limited retention described above.

Age requirements

NiteOut is intended for adults of legal age to enter venues that serve alcohol in their jurisdiction, and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be communicated through the app.
